Long Format Trails

Palo Blanco

2 days 1 Night

This trail takes you through the historic “campo” of the San Martin family, some of the first settlers in Puerto Guadal. Find yourselves riding through ancient Lenga beech Forests with cascading lichen (old man’s beard) . Besides the spectacular views, explore the most interesting fossil beds of Chile. By nightfall, we camp under a blanket of stars where sometimes long tracts of the milky way are visible, don't worry we have a warm bonfire to keep you going. End the journey with the iconic patagonian mouth watering barbecue. All our horseback trips range from 3-6 hours of riding per day depending on the people and weather. Trail level: easy-intermediate

Trail highlights:

  • 1st Day, meet at starting point and ride through forests and hills till we reach our beautiful lunch-spot. After lunch we continue uphill until we reach the verenadas (high pasture land).

  • 1st Night, we make camp at a stunning cul de sac in the forest, overlooking the majestic lake carrera and northern ice fields. As the bonfire and food gets prepared, sit back, stretch those legs and take in that view with a drink. Nested around the warm fire, immerse yourselves into legends and stories of these ancient and mysterious lands.

  • 2nd Day, After breakfast we ride to the amazing fossil beds where we take you on a 20 million year old adventure. Afterwards we ride back down to a mouth watering cordero al palo (Patagonian lamb barbecue) and finish the excursion.

Veranada Bonita Trail

4 days 3 Nights

This trail takes you along the ancient gaucho cattle route up the mountains. Experience mixed habitat: beech tree forests with old man's beard, panoramic view of the northern ice fields and beautiful lake carrera, grasslands and captivating fossil-filled river valleys. Also get a glimpse of the majestic patagonia national park from a birds eye view. This trail is a hidden gem. Trail level: intermediate


Glacier Tronador Trail

2 DAYS 1 NIGHT 

30 kilometers from Puerto Guadal lies Mallin Grande. It is here we start this adventure which takes you through typical Patagonian back country and deep into glacial river valleys where we reach Glacier Tronador. Idyllic camping spot by the river and in front of Glacier Tronador, which means thunder glacier; the combination of active ice calving in a closed valley makes it a thunderous affair.

Pampa Zorro Trail

4 DAYS 3 NIGHTs

This is a continuation of Glacier Tronador trail which takes you atop the highland meadows or summer grazing grounds where it opens up to panoramic views. We then make our way through forests and streams finally reaching Puesto Hermosilla which is by a multi-colored river making for a peaceful ambience.

Short Format Trails

Maqui Waterfall Trail

3 hours

The ideal summer trail which takes you through hills and short patches of forest and finally opens up to the view of the Maqui Waterfall. As we make our way uphill to the hidden pools the view is mesmerizing. Finish the tour with a snack and a swim in the infinity pool.

The 'Florindo' Trail

4 hours

Nestled uphill from Puerto Guadal, lies a copper and zinc mine in a beautiful beech forest. This hidden mine was abandoned about 40 years ago. Now it gives you a mysterious vibe with the remnants of huge machinery and various structures still standing, with the backdrop of lake Carrera. This trail, made by veteran gaucho Don Florindo, is a continuation of the maqui waterfall trail, which then takes you up the hills and forests until you reach the mine.

 
 

Fossil Trail

4-6 hours

One of the most popular treks in the area and for good reason. Besides the jaw-dropping panoramic views of the lake and northern ice fields; explore the most unique and interesting fossil beds with fascinating history.
